The Major started mountain biking last summer with some friends from work. He bought an expensive Trek bike and other related paraphernalia and off he went.
When he came home from his first ride, he had some bumps and bruises and scratches, but the look on his face was complete joy. He's been riding almost every chance he gets ever since.
Did I mention he burned 1200 calories on his first ride? Yeah, 1200. My interest was piqued.
So, the Saturday before Mother's Day, we bought me a new bike - with shoes, helmet, gloves and special pants with butt-padding. Yes, I said butt-padding. I wasn't sure about it at first, but I'm so glad I had them. And my bike is a Trek Cali - which seems perfectly fitting for this Cali-girl!
The very next Saturday the Major and I went for a ride. We were on "beginner" trails, but since I really had nothing to compare that to, they were definitely challenging for me. We rode 10.2 miles and I burned about 1000 calories in about an hour. It was so much fun!
And no bumps or bruises for me, since I had the butt-padded pants, of course. Plus, I didn't have the special clip-in pedals yet. They have since arrived, but we have not had a chance to go back out. I predict some minor injuries on our next ride.
I can't wait!
