When we bought this house, it came with a pool. It was about 4 feet deep and was sunken into the ground about 1 foot. We were happy to have a pool, but we were not happy with the location of the pool in the backyard.
|This is our pool, circa 2009|
The previous owner had planned to build a deck right off the dining room, so that it would be level with the top of the pool. However, the deck was never built. And we were definitely not planning on doing that.
We were never thrilled with the location of the pool in the backyard. Plus, there are so many trees and not enough sun gets to the pool. It was always full of leaves and always cold. (I don't like a cold pool.) But, after 6 years, we decided we were done with the pool. That is, the Major and I were done with the pool - the kids, not so much.
At the end of last summer, we took the pool down. And there has been a nice sized hole in the backyard ever since - through the whole fall, winter and spring, and during the Major's last deployment. Well, now, it's time to fill the hole.
|But first, some s'mores over a little bonfire!|
We started filling the hole Memorial Day weekend. Then we had some nice rainstorms that helped settle the dirt and we finished filling it on Father's Day.
So, now what to do with this dirt-filled area? I bet I could really use one of those reality show designers that re-design backyards and make them beautiful. I would love that!
But, for now, I just hope we get some grass to grow before our big Fourth of July party!
