There's Something About: Aquariums

Last week Lightning had a field trip to a local aquarium. My family always loves going to the aquarium, even though we have our own beautiful fish tank in the house! I know, I know - it's not quite the same thing.

But it's interactive!

We don't have sharks and stingrays in our tank at home.  Those are always pretty popular, no matter how wet one gets while trying to touch them.

Everyone loves the shark tank, too.

That's Lightning peeking his head into the penguin area.

Getting ready to watch the sea lion show.

Of course, we have to pick up a crab.

My favorite is the butterfly and bird room. At an aquarium? Yes! They're just so beautiful. No matter how many butterfly bushes you plant around your yard, you're just never going to see so many beautiful butterflies in one place. And if you're lucky, one or two will actually land on you!

This is the 1st one. I wasn't fast enough to get a photo of the 2nd one.

This is how they feed the butterflies, sugar water and fruit. They're just beautiful.

The birds are beautiful, too. There's an employee in the bird room that will help place a bird on your arm or shoulder. I had one crawl all the way to the top of my head - it felt really weird! Lightning loved holding the birds. He held several, but couldn't believe there was a bird on his head. Just look at that face!

It was a great field trip, especially since I was able to keep Lightning with me to enjoy more of the aquarium while the rest of the classes returned to school. It turned into a "mommy and me" day and those are always great!

  1. Looks like you guys had a great time! I'm a baby and refuse to go into the butterfly rooms.
